Conditions for in-service training (cont)

A student with a BSc Honours degree in pure Physics can, while studying the four Medical Physics modules at any one of the recognised training institutions, simultaneously register with the South African Medical and Dental Council as a Medical Physicist-in-training. The candidate will thus undergo practical in-service training while studying part-time for a certificate granting the student Medical Physics Honours degree status. Current regulations of the professional Board for Medical Science of the SAMDC requires that a candidate must complete two years experiential training subsequent to having obtained the BSc Honours degree in Medical Physics status before he/she is eligible for registration as a Medical Physicist. Both years may be completed while such a candidate was enrolled part-time for the certificate granting him/her Medical Physics honours degree status. It will therefore take a minimum period of three years after obtaining a BSc degree to register as a Medical Physicist.
