Radiotherapy

Radiotherapy is a specialist medical field in which ionising radiation is applied in the treatment of malignant and benign conditions. The medical physicist plays a key role in the daily planning of treatments and the development of new treatment techniques. The medical physicist is also responsible for the routine quality control of linear accelerators and cobalt units which are used for cancer treatment. The measuring and calculating of the radiation dosage from internal and external radiation sources given to patients are other essential services provided by the medical physicist.
